Matcha Green Tea Cake


Matcha Green Tea is very well known as a drink. Either served purely as Matcha Green Tea or Matcha Latte. I have tried something different here. So far I have not been into baking. I started baking bread a few weeks ago. Now it was time to try something new.


250 Grams flour

2 Eggs

250 Grams Coconut oil

100 ml Coconut Milk

2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

120 ml Agave Sirup

2 Teaspoons Matcha Green Tea Powder

1 Teaspoon Chocolate Powder

Please note that this amount of ingredients will serve you a small cake.

As you can tell from the list of ingredients not only the Matcha green tea powder is quite unusual. I have used coconut oil for most of my baking and cooking for almost two years now. Some time ago I have switched from regular milk to coconut milk and from sugar to agave syrup.


Mix flour, eggs, coconut oil, coconut milk, agave syrup and baking powder for two minutes. Separate 1/3 of the dough and mix the smaller part with chocolate powder. Mix the other 2/3 dough with the matcha green tea powder. Prepare a baking pan with a little coconut oil and fill the two parts of dough in the baking pan. Stir a little with a fork to create the marble look.

Heat the oven up 200 degrees. Bake the cake for 10 minutes at 200 degrees and then another 35 minutes at 180 degrees. Since every oven operates a little differently please check if the cake is ready.

Let the cake cool down and decorate the cake with some icing sugar.

Please consider that this cake contains green tea. Green tea contains caffeine and should be consumed in small/normal doses.
